The self-contained construction of server and control cabinets with numerous electrical components installed inside the cabinets pose a particular challenge for fire protection. The fire protection systems must be placed directly in the cabinet. This is one of the only ways a smoldering fire or cables overheating can be detected as early as possible and with immunity to false alarms and extinguished immediately. RISK ANALYSIS
The greatest risk of fire in IT cabinets comes primarily from overloaded electrical systems, faulty contacts or defective components – the high number of electrical components is a permanent ignition source. The high current load can quickly lead to a short circuit or overheating. The closed construction of the cabinets often hinders timely fire detection and the flammable materials of the cabinets (plastics) are a high fire load. Soot, corrosion and smoke gases as consequences of fire can cause lasting damage to circuit boards and other hardware and create the risk of critical data being lost.

BETTER SOLUTIONS IN FIRE PROTECTION
We have developed TITANUS RACK∙SENS ® to quickly localize a potential start of the fire in a closed server or control cabinet and thus detect it as early as possible. Thanks to its modular 19" design, our fire detection system can be optimally integrated into the control cabinet to be monitored in a space-saving manner and detects where the risk of fire is greatest. Like all other aspirating smoke detectors in the TITANUS® family, TITANUS RACK∙SENS ® utilizes the outstanding feature of high sensitivity and reacts up to 2000 times more sensitively than conventional fire detection systems. The proven TITANUS® technology thus enables countermeasures to be initiated in enough time to prevent the spread of fire or to shut down or selectively shut down affected systems and cabinets.
In the event of fire detection, we also offer a combined solution with integrated extinguishing using our FirExting® system for immediate fire extinguishing. This can either be integrated directly into the cabinet or implemented as an external variant by connecting it to our gas extinguishing containers. Both extinguishing system variants use extinguishing gases that are especially suitable for use in the IT sector. They extract the oxygen from the ambient air and thus suffocate the core of the fire. It is no longer necessary to switch off the power supply.
With this holistic fire protection solution, we initiate the immediate and earliest possible fire detection directly at the server racks with extinguishing technology that is optimally adapted to switch and server cabinets. This starts directly at the core of the fire and enables residue-free and non-destructive fire extinguishing.
